UK softball ended its season on Sunday as the Cats fell 5-2 to Arizona State, handing the Sun Devils a 2-0 series win in the NCAA Tournament Super Regionals in Tempe, Ariz.

A solo home run from freshman infielder Nikki Sagermann and an RBI single from senior infielder Kara Dill were the lone runs the Cats could muster in game two.

The Cats failed to add to their school record 41 wins they took to Arizona State after winning the Lexington Regional on Sunday, May 19.

Arizona State moves on to the Women’s College World Series for the 11th time in Sun Devil softball history.

Three home runs in the sixth inning weren’t enough for No. 12 UK  on Saturday as the Cats were defeated, 5-4, bye No. 5 Arizona State in game one of the series.

The Sun Devils moved 3-0 ahead in the third inning, before freshman infielder Christian Stokes replied with a solo home run in the top of the fifth.

The Sun Devils added two further runs in the bottom of the fifth to move four runs clear with the score at 5-1.

junior pitcher/infielder Lauren Cumbess first led off the top of the sixth with a solo home run, before senior outfielder Alice O’Brien hit a solo shot and Stokes hit her second solo homer of the game.

The Cats were unable to add to the three solo home runs and fell one run short.

Freshman pitcher Kelsey Nunley worked all six innings, giving up five runs on five hits with two walks and one strikeout.
