UK redshirt freshman running back Justin Taylor has asked for and been granted his release from his scholarship, a spokesman for the school said Monday.

The 5-foot-10, 215-pound running back from Atlanta rushed four times in the Blue/White game last month, which ranked fifth among running backs.

Taylor redshirted last season after making his decision to sign his letter of intent to the Cats on Signing Day in 2012.

Taylor originally committed to Alabama before his senior year of high school. Taylor re-opened his recruitment after a knee injury hampered his senior season.

“We appreciate Justin’s efforts and wish him the best as he continues his career,” UK head coach Mark Stoops said in a statement.

No official word has been made about Taylor’s future.
