UPDATE: UK Athletics announced Wednesday afternoon that freshman Nerlens Noel is out for the season after suffering an ACL tear. Read more: Nerlens Noel out for season with ACL tear

UK Athletics released an update on the status of freshman center Nerlens Noel late Wednesday morning.

Noel underwent x-rays on his left knee on Tuesday night at University of Florida’s Shands Hospital which were found to be negative.

Noel was due to undergo an MRI exam Wednesday morning, according to the UK Athletics press release.

The four-time reigning SEC Freshman of the Week suffered the knee injury when attempting to block a shot in transition during the second half of Tuesday night’s 69-52 loss on the road to Florida.
