Three-star inside linebacker Keith Kelsey Jr. verbally pledged his commitment to Louisville Monday, turning down a scholarship offer from UK head coach Mark Stoops.

UK had made Kelsey Jr.’s final three, but it was Cards fans who watched the announcement at his Gainseville, Fla. high school with smiles on their faces.

The 6-foot-1, 217-pound linebacker, whose father, Keith Kelsey, played collegiately at Florida from 1995-1999, picked the Cardinals over UK and South Florida.

Kelsey Jr. visited the Cats last weekend after visiting South Florida Jan. 18 and Louisville Jan. 11 according to Rivals.com.

The Gainesville Sun reported Kelsey Jr. had 193 tackles, 6.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and two blocked field-goals in his senior season at high school.

Scout.com ranked Kelsey Jr. as the 33rd best inside linebacker in the class of 2013, while ESPN ranked Kelsey Jr. as the 46th best inside linebacker in his class.

Kelsey Jr. also had scholarship offers from Duke, Iowa State, Marshall, Purdue and Temple, among others.
