Week four in the NBA season came and went without the leagues’ latest No. 1 draft pick, Anthony Davis, seeing any playing time.

Davis, plagued with an ankle injury, has not played since Nov. 17 when the New Orleans Hornets took on Doron Lamb and the Milwaukee Bucks.

“Hopefully, early December. Let’s just hope I get back sooner,” Davis told The Times-Picayune. “We don’t want to rush anything and then have to have surgery. I know the doctors are going to steer me right and tell me the truth.”

With the extended time off, Davis has slipped in the race for the coveted Rookie of the year award.

On Tuesday, Nov. 22, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s General Manager, Sam Presti, made it known that both DeAndre Liggins and Daniel Orton would be assigned to the Tulsa 66ers, the franchise’s team in the NBA Developmental League.

Thus far, Liggins has played a total of four games for the Thunder and Orton has only seen action in one. But, the pair of former UK teammates faired well in the season opener for the 66ers.

Liggins led the team with a triple-double, recording 15 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Orton played well, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

DeMarcus Cousins was ejected from the game on Saturday, Nov. 24, in the Kings match-up against the Utah Jazz. Cousins was issued his second technical foul after complaining to the referee about a clash with fellow former Cat, Enes Kanter.

Cousins finished the shortened game with 14 points and 9 rebounds in 30 minutes of play. Kanter recorded 9 points and 7 rebounds in just 14 minutes on the court.

The Detroit Pistons have won just 3 games this season, but they managed to win 2 of those games in week four. Both Brandon Knight and Tayshaun Prince played roles in the team’s wins.

In a blowout win against Rajon Rondo’s Boston Celtics, Prince had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. In a Friday night game against the Toronto Raptors, Knight finished with 16 points and 3 assists. The second-year point guard also hit the game winning shot in the final seconds.

“You have to be able to play hard to get to those situations where it can be a close game,” Knight said to David Mayo of M Live after the game. “And then you find a way to fight through it.”

The Pistons will look to Knight’s continued improvement and ability to close games as a winning formula going forward this season.

With the influx of new head coach, Mike D’Antoni, the Los Angeles Lakers have a new hope and expectation for their bench production.

Former UK guard Jodie Meeks was signed by the Lakers this offseason to stretch the floor with his shooting ability, but Meeks started the season shooting the ball just 29 percent from the field.

Since the arrival of D’Antoni this past week, Meeks has shot 50 percent from the field and averaged over 10 points per game in an increased role off the bench for the Lakers.
