Cool Cats reversal begins with three-game weekend

UK hockey aims to snap its seven game losing streak this weekend against Cincinnati and Dayton. The Cats play Cincinnati Friday at home and Dayton tomorrow night before traveling to Cincinnati for a Sunday afternoon game.
After dropping last weekend’s games against Ohio State, UK is now 4-10-0 on the season.
“Playing two midnight games followed by an afternoon games will be hard on us,” junior goaltender Aaron Tenfelde said.
Sophomore forward Charlie Hales agreed with the notion.
“We’re going to need to be mentally tough to come out with three wins.”
This is the first time the Cool Cats will face off against the Bearcats this season, however, Saturday’s contest will be the second this season against the Flyers. UK lost 5-4 in Dayton on Oct. 20.
“In the four years I’ve been here, we’ve never played one team, played a different team, and then gone back and played the first team all in the same weekend,” said assistant captain Dylan Rohar of the weekend’s schedule.
The University of Cincinnati travels to Lexington with a record of 2-12-0. The Bearcats’ two wins come against previous UK opponent Akron and future opponent Eastern Kentucky.
“We always seem to have trouble with them, it’s always a high scoring game,” Rohar said.
Last season the Cats beat the Bearcats 10-7 in Lexington before travelling to Cincinnati to earn a shootout win 6-5.
“There’s a little bit of a rivalry there. They’re going to come out hungry. We have to have something to counter that,” Hales said.
Dayton has progressed to 9-1-1-1 on the season since their win against the Cats earlier in the season.
“We had a second period collapse,” Tenfelde said of the previous game against the Flyers.
The goaltender is confident that if the Cats put together a good sixty minutes, they will beat Dayton this time around, especially with this game being at home for the Cats.
The puck drops at midnight tonight and tomorrow night at the Lexington Ice Center. Admission is $7 at the door.
