UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart and Executive Associate Athletics Director Sandy Bell highlighted student athletes’ academic and athletic accomplishments in the inaugural meeting of the Board of Trustees athletics committee Tuesday morning.

Barnhart said that athletes at the university are excelling, “academically, socially and competitively.”

He singled out on-the-field performances in men’s and women’s basketball, rifle, baseball, softball and men’s tennis.

Bell detailed the specific components of the NCAA Academic Progress Rate rankings.  She reported that UK and Vanderbilt are the only two SEC schools to not have received a single NCAA APR penalty.

“Every player was here through last Friday, got to class and is doing well academically,” Bell said in reference to UK basketball players that will soon be entering the NBA draft.
