The UK baseball team hasn’t had many things to complain about this season. Last week was one of them.

After a 10-2 loss to Louisville on Tuesday, the Cats lost their first conference series of the year, losing on Saturday and Sunday at Vanderbilt.

The three loses were uncharacteristic for a team that only had six losses in their first 39 games.

UK (36-9, 14-7 SEC) dropped two spots to No. 3 in Monday’s national rankings. But, this weekend’s opponent, No. 5 Florida, lost their series last weekend to Arkansas.

Their series in Lexington, Thursday – Saturday, will be the premiere matchup in the country. Thursday night’s game will be broadcast on ESPNU.

Some good news came on Tuesday, as sophomore Trevor Gott and junior Luke Maile were named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes midseason watch list. The most prestigious honor in college baseball, the award is given every year to the top amateur baseball player in the country.

The Gators, however, boast four members of the list.

The two SEC powers will kick off the series Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
