John Calipari appears on ESPN’s SportsCenter

In January 2010, John Calipari was on SportsCenter with anchor John Buccigross and caused a little controversy with his comments.

Friday, Calipari was back on SportsCenter with Buccigross. This time, it was a very cordial interview on UK basketball.

“Nice, polite conversation between the two of you,” said the other anchor after the interview concluded. “Proud of you.”

Calipari went through a few of his customary points: His team is “spotty” right now but will be good in March. His team is young, which explains their sluggish starts in the first two games. He knows Kyle Wiltjer needs more, so stop telling him that same thing. Recruits love coming here because of how successful his players become without sacrificing anything in the classroom. His players have to play together if they want to reach their goals. And did you know he has more than a million Twitter followers and hundreds of thousands of “dear friends” on Facebook?

Still, Calipari said what he wanted to say. And didn’t call Buccigross any names.

In fact, it was Buccigross who took his turn.

“What Mick Jagger was to the Rolling Stones,” Buccigross said, “John Calipari is to Kentucky.”
