Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) arrived at Joseph-Beth Booksellers around 7 p.m. Monday to a crowd of nearly 100 people waiting to have their books signed.

Paul’s book is titled “The Tea Party Goes to Washington” and is his first book.

“We started thinking about it when the election ended,” Paul said. “We wanted someone from the Tea Party to explain what it was.”

Paul is the son of  Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas), and is the first member of the Senate to serve alongside a parent.

He first came to the media’s attention in 2008 while campaigning with his father, then a presidential candidate.

“I think Rand Paul is the real deal,” author Jeff Willis said. “He’s gutsy; he’s making some noise in Washington. I think Rand Paul is speaking for way beyond the Republican Party.”

Paul was elected to the U.S. Senate in November of 2010, claiming the seat vacated by Jim Bunning.

“I think it’s a good opportunity for the people to meet their senator,” Joseph Beth Public Relations and Events Coordinator Michael Cruikshank said of Paul’s book signing.
