An accident involving a pedestrian and a car occurred near UK’s campus Tuesday afternoon.

Lexington Police Officer Andre Grider said Cynthia Hammonds, an employee at the Veterans Affairs Hospital, was crossing South Limestone to Transcript Avenue near the UK Medical Center around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when she was hit by a car.

UK Police Chief Joe Monroe said the Lexington Fire Department transported Hammonds to UK Hospital. As of 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Hammonds was reported as being in stable condition.

UK Police and the Lexington Police Department responded to the accident. Grider said Hammonds had the right-of-way and was hit by the car as it was turning left during a yellow light onto Limestone. Grider was unsure of the extent of Hammonds’ injuries.

Monroe did not identify the driver of the car, but the car involved was a silver Kia. The driver cooperated with police.
