Kernel, Kentuckian to be reviewed

Two UK student publications will be put under review on Tuesday.

The Board of Trustees’ Student Affairs Committee will hold a meeting to review the Kentucky Kernel, UK’s independent student newspaper, and the Kentuckian, UK’s yearbook. The committee will also discuss Student Government and campus events.

The main focus of the agenda is to look at an overview of the two student publications, said Ann Haney, chair of the committee and alumna representative for the Board of Trustees.

“The meeting will focus on regulations, funding and how each student publication operates,” Haney said.

Both the Kernel and the Kentuckian will give presentations in response to a semester check of the two publications.

“It’s been some time since we heard from them,” Haney said. “It’s a positive and informative presentation on how everything is going and operating.”

Committee member and Student Government President Ryan Smith said the publications are important to the committee because they cover topics relating to students.

Smith will attend the meeting to give an update on SG activities and programs.

“ … The point of this meeting is to discuss things going on throughout the campus and learning more about our students and their publications,” Haney said.

The meeting is at 8 a.m. in room 103 of the Main Building.
