Do you remember drinking legally at age 18? Probably not- they banned that more than four or five years ago. Do you remember streaking? No? Guess they banned that before your time, too. That’s a potential lifetime membership on the sexual offender list these days. Have a regular tube of toothpaste in your carry on? Confiscated! Drive without a seatbelt? That’s a ticket! Lee Todd says that, in part, it’s about our health. Well, so what’s next? Obesity? Will the administration try to regulate fattening behaviors? Mandatory calisthenics for BMIs over 25? Would you be so gung-ho if you were required to get that flu shot? Or give up your junk food or your caffeinated alcohol drinks? How about walking while texting? Some of those folks pay so little attention to their surroundings that they’ll walk right into you. But, that’s okay with me- I stand tall for their liberties, too. The point is not that you won’t remember in a few years being able to smoke outdoors once upon a time, but that our civil liberties are eroding away out one by one. Its not a matter of health or whats best for the students, its a matter of the few in administration that think they know whats best for everyone else. I say give us back our freedoms, let us choose as adults how we want to live. And stop babying and playing nanny control all, thinking we are in need of desperate help. As Alex Brewer stated above, I’m glad you enjoy the university making decisions for you. I PREFER TO MAKE THEM FOR MYSELF! So if you love freedom and liberty, say NO TO THIS BAN. And exercise you rights as an American citizen. I think this ban is a horrible idea! When will the Government and Assembly realise that we are adults and therefore can make our own choices. This includes the non-smokers too, who can choose to stand/sit elsewhere!!
