Jewish rapper to entertain Lexington

Eminem broke hip-hop barriers when he became the most successful Caucasian rapper, but new barriers are being broken today by a unique musical artist.
Grammy nominated Hasidic Jewish rapper Matisyahu will bring his unique blend of Jewish themes with Reggae, rock and hip-hop sounds to Lexington on Monday.
Matisyahu was born in Pennsylvania in 1979 as Matthew Miller. He was raised as a Reconstructionist Jew, but through much experimentation with other Jewish sects, settled on Hasidism in 2007.
Since starting his musical career in 2004, Matisyahu has recorded three studio albums, one live album, two remix CD’s and released a live concert on DVD.
Matisyahu was nominated for Best Reggae Album for his 2006 Release, “Youth,” at the 49th annual Grammys, but lost to Ziggy Marley, son of Bob Marley.
The single  “King Without a Crown” off his first studio album “Shake Off The Dust… Arise” reached No. 28 on the US Hot 100 chart in 2006.
Matisyahu will be playing at Buster’s Billiards and Backroom Monday at 9 p.m. Doors open at 7, but only ticket holders will be allowed into the show. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Buster’s Web site, (www.bustersbb.com).
