Dean resigns, returns to OSU

The UK Libraries dean is moving to Ohio State University — for a second time.

The dean of libraries and the W. T. Young Endowed Chair, Carol Pitts Diedrichs, is resigning from her position in the UK Libraries department on Jan. 4, 2010. Diedrichs accepted the Director of University Libraries position at OSU, where she held multiple offices prior to her hire at UK.

Diedrichs has been at UK since July 2003.

“I have loved being the dean of libraries at UK,” Diedrichs said in an e-mail to the Kernel. “Only one other job, the one at OSU, would have compelled me to leave.”

Diedrichs holds a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Texas-Austin.

Diedrichs said her colleagues are who she will miss the most.

“At the end of the day, it’s the people who make things work and move things forward that matter most.”
