Kings of Leon rock Rupp

Sex sells. It’s that simple.
Kings of Leon made a killing off their “Only By Night” album, which was laced with sexual undertones that pretty much anybody in America could pick up on — at least I hope.
So, while sex sells, sex wasn’t for sale at Rupp Arena Saturday. I can tell you what was though. Alcohol. 33,000 kegs later and everyone in that arena was feeling happy.
However, even with all the drunken people that filled Rupp Arena, Kings of Leon stole the show and no drunken person could ruin that — even if the bottom of my pants were soaked with Bud Light.
White Lie opened the evening, a mellow, less notable version of the Kings of Leon. White Lies is one of those bands that will probably stay in the dark for a while.
None of their songs were catchy enough to stick. While I will say White Lies are on my iPod, they fail to live up to their studio sound in a live setting.
Who comes for the opening band anyway? There were more empty seats in that arena Saturday than I’ve ever seen during a basketball game when the Cats are getting their pride handed to them on a silver platter during basketball season.
Once the opening band left, the stage crew finished their work and the lights dimed; you couldn’t find an empty seat — except maybe a few in the nosebleed of course.
The Kings came out in usual King fashion — on foot. But despite their royally boring entrance, the show was anything but.
Caleb Followill, despite Tennessee roots, came out sporting the UK blue, giving our boys a royal pat on the back for losing the game to South Carolina earlier in the day.
A little old mixed with a little new, Kings of Leon played a good mix of music.
When “Sex on Fire” came blaring through the speakers I was sure people were going to start stripping. But, somehow everyone remained fully clothed.
My only complaint, besides the fact that the dude next to me was trying to “Drop It Likes It’s Hot” at a rock concert, was the set was far too short.
They have more than enough songs to fill a two hour set, but didn’t. It doesn’t matter. We got to see Kings of Leon and they left us wanting more. Enough said.
