Stewart Huff to perform for Comedy Caravan series

By: Jordan Vilines

Comedian Stewart Huff is the first to admit that life’s screw-ups are often the best thing that can happen to you.

Huff feels that the early “blunders” he made as a young man are perfect examples. Neither marriage nor college agreed with him.

“I didn’t want to be either of those things,” Huff said. “So I got a divorce and I dropped out.”

What he came away with was some personal insight — conventional obligations and nine-to-five schedules were not his thing. It took an “open mic” night at a comedy club years later to lead him to what where he is now.

Twelve years ago, without any prepared material, Huff impetuously took the comedy stage for the first time. He fell flat on his face. A gifted writer, Huff was accustomed to sharing his stories on paper but not in front of a crowd.

“It went horribly and I loved it,” he said.

Surprisingly, his first screw-up with stand-up comedy sparked something inside of him, and he never looked back. His career as a comedian was born.

Today, Huff enjoys sharing his personal experiences with his audiences.

“A lot of comedians don’t care what they talk about as long as they get a laugh,” said Huff, “but I want the audience to laugh with me at my experiences and my stories.”

This relatable comedian explains that his passion for writing affects his particular style of comedy. His storytelling comes to life on stage and each of his personal stories delivers as much life wisdom as they do laugher.

Huff ultimately hopes to write a compilation of short stories profiling his many random and hilarious experiences as a stand-up comic in his travels around the country.

Huff intends to stick with stand-up comedy for a while to come. He says he feels that it is the uniqueness of each city he visits that provides the inspiration for his writing and comedic material, and continues to fuel his passion for traveling.

“Every week is different…every city is a new experience.”

Stewart Huff, the self-proclaimed screw-up, performs Wednesday night at 7 p.m, at The Cat’s Den as part of the weekly Comedy Caravan series. The event is free and open to the public.
