A UK student was killed in a car accident Tuesday night when his truck hit a tree.

Robert P. Helton, 21, from West Liberty, Ky., was driving on Ky. 844 in Morgan County when his Chevrolet pickup dropped off the right shoulder of the road. He overcorrected, crossed into the westbound lane, ran off the road and hit a tree, according to Kentucky State Police. He was not wearing a seat belt.­­

Helton was pronounced dead at Morgan County Appalachian Regional Healthcare Hospital. State police are investigating.
