Beginning Aug. 1, all users of motorized scooters, mopeds and motorcycles will have the same rights and responsibilities, UK announced in a news release.

Scooters, mopeds and low-power motorcycles will no longer be able to park at bicycle racks throughout campus. Users will now be required to buy an $8-per-month parking permit and use motorcycle parking areas. The areas are marked by signs or green lines. The vehicles are also no longer permitted to drive on sidewalks, bike paths or lawns.

Anyone wanting to park a motorcycle, scooter or moped on campus must register each vehicle with UK Parking and Transportation Services. During the 2009-10 permit year, employees and students with motor vehicle permits are eligible for complimentary moped/motorcycle permits. Those without must pay $8 per month.

The permits can be purchased at Parking Structure #5 next to Kennedy Bookstore or Parking Structure #6 located at 721 Press Ave.
