Fire marshal has no plans for flash rave investigation

It’s likely a fire code was violated with so many occupants in the W.T. Young Library during a “flash rave” last week, although UK’s fire marshal is not currently investigating the incident.

“We don’t have any numbers, but I can tell you from the pictures that there were a lot of people there,” UK assistant fire marshal Greg Williamson said. “We try to limit the number of people that enter the building, but in those situations, it’s just hard to do.”

At least 300 students ran into the lobby of the W.T. Young Library on the night of April 29. After about five minutes of chanting and dancing in the lobby, the rave dispersed. The library was evacuated after someone pulled a fire alarm, and UK Police said the night of the flash rave that the identity of the person who pulled the fire alarm remains unknown.

Williamson said the fire marshal is not investigating anything at this time.

“I mean, what can you do?” he said.
