No decision made on fall library hours

No decision has been made yet on whether or not the W. T. Young Library will be cutting hours next semester said Pat Wilson, an associate dean of UK Libraries.

A forum was held two weeks ago regarding the issue of closing the library at night for a short period of time.

At the forum, students were told there was a lack of funding to allow the library to be open 24 hours, five days a week.Last October, the W.T. Young library cut its hours, allowing it to close at 2 a.m. and reopen at 7. The possibility of this happening again is likely unless more funding is provided, said Carol Diedrichs, dean of UK Libraries at the forum.

Student Government and the Provost gave money to the library last fall to keep it open 24/5, but this money will last only through July. After July more money will be needed, Diedrichs said.

Library administrators could not be reached for comment on when this decision will be made.
