UK guard Jodie Meeks has not decided whether he will keep his name in the NBA draft permanently.
“I’m just in the process of doing what I need to do to get the experience,†Meeks said. “I’m not really sure what I’m going to do, I’m just working out and trying to stay in shape.â€
When asked what he thought of new UK head coach John Calipari’s dribble-drive offense and what he could learn by coming back to play for Calipari, Meeks was positive.
“If we [Meeks and Patrick Patterson] both come back I think we’ll have a great team,†Meeks said.
Meeks said that his decision and Patterson’s were independent of each other ,and he would not hesitate to recommend Patterson remain in the draft if he were going to be a top 20 pick.
“I think we’re both in the process of where we want to do what’s best for us, but at the same time make a smart decision,†Meeks said.
Meeks said he had not decided which NBA teams he would work out for yet, but hoped to make that decision in the next couple of weeks.
Meeks spoke to reporters after throwing out the first pitch at the UK baseball team’s game against Louisville Tuesday.
if meeks and patterson stay in the draft, and without wall or bledsoe at point guard ky. will not be a great team. calaperi is a great coach, but it also takes great players to win big. the players he has coming in are good players ,but they are freshmen .
It would be truly unwise for these two guys to go the NBA. For one, both have major potential and raw talent, which I feel would be better established if they were to fulfill thier four year term. They have a new coach coming in who would help them reach their full potential. I feel the Kentucky Wildcats needs these players for the following reasons. With Jodie Meeks they get the senior leadership they deperately desire. With Patterson they get a big man who can do way more than just play the paint, and who is also as mature as a senior . Plus they have nice recruits coming in and a couple softmores coming back that would truly make a aweswome team considering that Patterson and Meeks were to return next year. Point is, Meeks and Patterson are great players who play great together and with the right coach and a few better teamates could be the combonation to a championship year.
Calipari will mold these two players into NBA type players. He even said once that he could make a guard out of Patterson.

if meeks and patterson both leave then kentucky is basically screwed. Even if they get wall or whoever you cant replace a duo like that right off the back. But if they were to stay and we get wall then your looking at a possible starting lineup of john wall jodie meeks darius miller perry stevenson/demarcus cousins and patrick patterson. Which is a good enough team to make a run at the national championship!!!!

I think Meeks will stay exspecially since Patterson is coming back. We are going to have some of the best gaurds in the nation and if you add Meeks with Darius Miller and Bledsoe maybe even Wall and three of the best big men in the nation. So in my opinion if Meeks come back it’s a automatic championship in the bag.
