Students will be able to experience the crack of clashing shoulder pads, the feeling of running across rooftops and a battle for Middle Earth on Wednesday.
They won’t even have to leave campus.
Josh Payne, UK Electronic Arts representative, will present the EA Sports Grand Finale Event in the Student Center. Payne said the event will bring together all types of gamers on campus for a night of tournaments, giveaways and fun.
“We really want to reach out to all the gamers on campus to play games and just have a fun social event,†Payne said.
Payne is a member of the EA College Representative Program, which employs college students to market EA merchandise to their peers. Their goal is to bring gamers across campus together to experience what EA has to offer to the gaming community through events and tournaments on campus.
The program also hopes to generate feedback from college students to improve the gaming experience.
The event is the last of the semester and will feature EA games like “Tiger Woods 2009,†“Rock Band 2,†“Madden 2009,†“NCAA Football 2009†and “Lord of the Rings: Conquest†on Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii video game consoles.
Small tournaments for each game will be held throughout the evening, giving students a chance to win games, T-shirts and other prizes.
“We’re going to have five televisions for students to play games on and a projector showing previews of upcoming games,†Payne said.
The event is good for students who cannot afford every new game or want to try out different games, he said.
“I’ll be giving away somewhere between five and seven games,†Payne said. “It’s an opportunity to win some games and get some other free stuff.â€
The event begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in room 230 of the Student Center. The event is free.
