The UK men’s basketball team has added another top-tier opponent to its 2009-10 schedule.

The Cats will face the Connecticut Huskies on Dec. 9 as part of the 2009 SEC-Big East Invitational, according to a news release from UK Athletics. The game will be held at Madison Square Garden in New York City and will be televised nationally on ESPN.

UConn finished last season 31-5 with a 15-3 record in the Big East en route to a Final Four appearance.

St. John’s and Georgia will play before UK and UConn as part of a doubleheader that evening in New York. Depaul and Mississippi State will play before Syracuse and Florida at the St. Pete Times Forum on Dec. 10 in the other matchups for the invitational.

UConn and UK have only met once. Connecticut beat UK 87-83 in the second round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament.
