Friday marks the beginning of Keeneland’s spring meet, and for college students, the day promises more than just tailgating and horse racing.

Keeneland and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association are hosting the eighth annual College Scholarship Day, where full-time college students may register to win one of ten $1,000 scholarships.

Students may also receive free admission with their student I.D. at the East Grandstand Gate, and the first 1,000 to register for a scholarship will receive a free t-shirt, provided by Vineyard Vines. Gates open at 11 a.m., and registration will be located in the paddock area of Keeneland.

UK senior Jared Lee, who helped coordinate the marketing for this year’s event, said Keeneland and the KTA are also giving away pens, bottle openers, shot glasses, croakies and koozies on Friday.
