I Love You, Man
Starring: Paul Rudd, Jason Segel
Paul Rudd has done it again with yet another hit comedy, this time with a little less raunchiness. Rudd plays Peter Klaven, a metro-sexual real estate agent about to get married. There is only one problem with his wedding — he has no best man. Peter has never had a guy friend in his life. He has always had girlfriends and just relates better to women in general. His family, including his gay brother (Andy Samberg) and his father (J.K. Simmons) are happy to point this out to him and help him on his adventure to finding “the right guy.†After many unsuccessful “man dates,†which lead to a somewhat stalker (Thomas Lennon aka Lt. Dangle) and an Exorcist style puking scene, Rudd almost gives up. As Rudd is trying to sell the multimillion-dollar mansion of ex-Hulk Lou Ferrigno, he meets a quirky man by the name of Sidney Fife (Jason Segel). Segel and Rudd hit it off from the start. Segel teaches Rudd how to be a man and learns some lessons of his own in return. Of course there is some conflict, and of course it is resolved. One unexpected addition to the movie is Rudd’s fiancé’s hot best friend (Jaime Pressly) and her jerk of a husband (Jon Favreau). They constantly fight and seem to hate each other until they throw out lines about their sex life. Even though this movie is not as sexual as “The 40 Year Old Virgin†or as straight up hilarious as “Role Models,†it still serves for some pretty good laughs and would make a great date movie. Not to mention the new vocabulary you will come out of the movie with. I give “I Love You, Man†three out five stars.
