TAMPA, Fla. — After a wild week of games in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, a heart-stopping finish seemed fitting.

Mississippi State’s Phil Turner scored seven points over the last 1:31, including two free throws with eight seconds left to extend the Bulldogs’ lead from one point to three. Tennessee’s Tyler Smith missed a 3-pointer as time expired, and the Bulldogs claimed the SEC Tournament title, 64-61.

It wasn’t that simple, though. With 11.1 seconds left, J.P. Prince toed the free-throw line down by two. Prince hit the first and the second lipped out, but the rebound slipped out of State’s grasp and out of bounds to Tennessee.

Smith went to inbound the ball, but the Bulldogs locked down and forced a five-second violation.

After several timeouts, the Bulldogs eventually got the ball to Turner, who secured the Bulldogs’ first SEC Tournament championship since 2002.

As a result, the Bulldogs clinched an NCAA Tournament berth.

The NCAA bracket will be annouced at 6 p.m. Sunday. Stay tuned to 50.63.25.108 as Full Court Press live blogs the selection show.
