Tennessee outguns Auburn, will face Mississippi State on Sunday

TAMPA, Fla. — In the second semi-final of the Southeastern Conference Tournament on Saturday, Tennessee rode hot hands from across the board to beat Auburn, 94-85, and advance to the tournament’s final against Mississippi State on Sunday afternoon.

Five Volunteers scored in double digits, led by Wayne Chism’s 27-point effort. Chism added nine rebounds, also a team-best.

Tennessee shot 57.6 percent from the field. The team’s high shooting percentage, combined with its domination on the glass (44 rebounds compared to Auburn’s 26), was too much for Auburn to overcome. The Tigers kept the game close and even pulled within six points several times, but the Vols’ knack for big shots and timely rebounds put them over the top.

Tennessee and Mississippi State faced off once in the regular season, a five-point Tennessee win in Knoxville, Tenn. Tune in to 50.63.25.108 for a live blog and coverage of the title game tomorrow at 1 p.m.
