Meeks, Patterson named to All-SEC team

Jodie Meeks and Patrick Patterson were named to the All-Southeastern Conference First Team by the league’s coaches Tuesday.

The coaches unanimously voted Meeks to the honor. He led the league in scoring with 24.7 points per game, and was expected to win Player of the Year. That award went to Marcus Thornton, Louisiana State’s senior guard, who averaged 20.9 points per game.

Joining Thornton, Patterson and Meeks on the eight-man team were Nick Calathes, Tasmin Mitchell, Jarvis Varnado, Devan Downey and Tyler Smith.

LSU’s head coach Trent Johnson received Coach of the Year honors after leading the Tigers to the SEC regular season crown in his first year in Baton Rouge, La.

Varnado won his second straight Defensive Player of the Year, while Ole Miss’ Terrico White was named Freshman of the Year.
