UK Hoops eligible for postseason play after win

Junior guard Amani Franklin scored a career-high 28 points, made all four of her 3-point attempts and added seven rebounds to lead the UK women’s basketball team to a 70-53 win over South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. The Cats made 51 percent of their shots from the field, their best mark yet in Southeastern Conference play.

The win made the Cats (15-14, 5-9 SEC) eligible for postseason play. If selected, the Cats will play in a school-record fifth consecutive postseason. The Cats also registered a season-high 17 assists and made an SEC-best 85.7 percent of their free throw attempts. It was the Cats’ second win over South Carolina (10-17, 2-12 SEC) this season.

Sophomore forward Victoria Dunlap added 18 points and five rebounds for the Cats. In her final regular season game, senior guard Carly Ormerod didn’t attempt a shot from the field but finished with eight assists and five rebounds. Senior forward C.J. Pace led South Carolina with 14 points and seven rebounds.
