The golf cart used by SAFECATS to transport students across campus at night should be available again Thursday.
The golf cart, purchased by Student Government and contracted to SAFECATS, has been out of action for several days for repairs, said Todd Cox, SG adviser.
SG launched a system Monday to keep track of who uses the golf cart and when, said SG President Tyler Montell. This is something Montell said he and Cox have discussed sporadically this year and decided to enact.
An executive team limits SG drivers to a small number of student leaders, Cox said. Until Monday, however, there had been no system to keep track of the use of the golf cart, Montell said.
The checkout log will be used primarily for maintenance, although it could be used as a way to see who uses the golf cart and when and where it travels, Montell said.
The cart, purchased by SG during the 2007-08 school year for $4,800, was unavailable for several days because frayed wires had been knocked loose, Cox said. It is still in the shop because it is having its exterior worked on and a heater put in for the cold weather.
The only other time the cart was unavailable for SAFECATS this year was for general maintenance in December.Â
SG uses the golf cart about three times a week, Montell said, some days to transport materials for events where they need, tables or signs.Â
Cox, who grants use of the cart to individuals or groups said other people and groups have used the cart this year, including the Student Activities Board.
