Baseball team splits in first weekend under Henderson

The baseball team saw doubles in the opening to the Gary Henderson era. They traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C., over the weekend for four games—including a double header against No. 22 Coastal Carolina.

The Cats (2-2) won their first two games, both 8-3 decisions, over Troy and James Madison on Friday and Saturday morning respectively. However, it was the Chanticlees that proved to be the thorn in No. 19 UK’s side. They fell 4-1 on Saturday evening before dropping a 14-5 decision on Sunday.

Senior pitcher Chris Rusin, an All-Southeastern Conference preseason pick, had one of the worst games of his career on Sunday, giving up five earned runs on six hits in 4.1 innings pitched.

UK Hoops’ comeback falls short

It was that close. UK Hoops fell 57-56 on Sunday at Louisiana State University, despite holding LSU to eight points over the last five-plus minutes of the game.

It was not enough though as Carly Morrow missed a 3-pointer with two seconds left on the clock after a Victoria Dunlap steal with 10 seconds left in the game. The Cats trailed by 12 with 5:17 left in the game, before LSU missed four of its next six free throws.
