Greek system more diverse, accepting than students believe

Diversity is something that UK prides itself on each and everyday day. With every new year that passes, more and more diverse students step foot on UK’s campus. UK displays the importance of diversity through various clubs, activities, sports, etc.

Unfortunately, a place that is always open to diversity and is seldom recognized is the Greek community. Stereotypes are often placed on certain areas of the Greek community. Although what most close-minded people may or may not realize is there is a place for all individuals within the Greek community.

Each fraternity or sorority prides itself on particular values and morals that are the foundation to each chapter. Those individuals who feel they do not “fit in” within certain fraternities or sororities simply did not explore all of their options during Rush Week.

As you look within the chapters and its members, you will see that not one person is the same. Each individual has his or her own thoughts and opinions as well as interests. There is one thing that all members of the Greek community share — a love and appreciation for their specific chapter. As well as an unshakable respect for all other chapters on campus.

Whether you come from a small town south of Louisville or a thriving city like Chicago, you will always find a place to fit in within UK’s Greek community. You just simply need to break through all stereotypes and open your mind to all the Greeks have to offer.
