Shane Ragland, who admitted to killing UK football player Trent DiGiuro, has appealed a civil court ruling.

In August, a jury ruled Ragland, who pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in 2007, had to pay the DiGiuro family $63.3 million in punitive damages, lost wages and funeral costs.

The appeal to the civil court ruling was filed Monday in Fayette Circuit Court.

DiGuiro was shot and killed on Woodland Avenue in 1994. Ragland was convicted for DiGuiro’s murder in 2002, although that conviction was later overturned.

Ragland was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2007, and he was given credit for his previous incarceration.

He is no longer in prison.
