Fayette County Public Schools closed Friday, citing the cold weather. Whether UK would make a similar assessment would be on a case-by-case basis, said UK spokesman Jimmy Stanton.
Stanton said there was no temperature set for UK to cancel classes, and the university would look at each individual instance based on circumstances.
Classes have never been closed at UK because of cold weather, said UK spokesman Dan Adkins. The only time Adkins recalled the campus shutting down was the result of an ice storm in 2003.

UK was also closed during registration one year because we received 18″ of snow and most faculty members and staff couldn’t get to UK. There are a few other times that I can remember when UK closed because of snow and icy roads in Lexington. For verification, p;ease check the archives….
I remember an afternoon closure (and all evening activities canceled) in February 1982 due to heavy snow.
Heavy snow—maybe. Cold—oh please! Put on layers and walk fast. I’ve been out doing errands in it and I walk with a cane!
