Lexington voters waited in longest lines in the state to cast their ballots, a representative for the Secretary of State said Tuesday night.
“Fayette County is nothing compared to the rest of the country – some places report six-hour waits,” said department spokesman Les Fugate. “That said, we want to make the voting process as easy as possible.”
Lines in Fayette County stretched for as many as two or three hours due to a high turnout and a slower voting system, spokesman Les Fugate said. The county currently uses the eSlate voting machines, which electronically record votes.
Other spots in the state, including Jefferson County, use the eScan, where voters fill in bubbles like the ACT. Right now, Fayette is one of 85 counties without eScan, which the Secretary of State has encouraged people to use because it is faster and has voter verifiable paper records, Fugate said.
