UK student arrested Friday, charged with assault

A UK student was arrested Friday and charged with assaulting another UK student injured last week, according to Lexington Police.

Junior Kyle Andrew Almy of Hopkinsville has been arrested on first-degree assault charges. According to Lexington Police, Almy struck a fellow student, 19-year-old Blair Smith, in the head with a bottle at around 2:48 a.m. on Sept. 27 outside of 328 Aylesford Place.

Lexington Police found Smith critically injured on the 500 block of Euclid Avenue. Smith was taken by hospital to the UK Medical Center.

As of 11 p.m. Friday, Smith was in fair condition, according to UK Public Relations.

Almy was transported to the Fayette County Detention Center Friday afternoon. As of 11 p.m. Friday, Almy was no longer being held, according to jail officials.
